Preserving the Land
Keeping the groves environmentally friendly
Florida's Natural has been developing energy-saving practices since before it was popular to do so. In fact, our environmental efforts have earned us recognition at national Earth Day ceremonies in Washington DC, an honor we're proud to carry into a future of earth-friendly practices.
Here are just some of the ways we're doing our part to reduce our impact on the environment.
Solar Energy
We started by making good use of a resource Florida has no shortage of — sunshine. Panels atop the Grove House Visitors Center collect solar energy to provide 30 percent of the power needed to operate. This supplemental energy source has saved us from generating more than 25,000 pounds of greenhouse gases. Our offices also utilize energy-saving light bulbs, as well as sensors that turn them off when not in use.
Natural Gas
In the plant, on-site co-generators now burn natural gas for a cleaner way to provide both electricity and steam for production of Florida's Natural® Brand Premium not-from-concentrate juices.
Water Conservation
An improved water circulation system has let us save over six billion gallons of water per year since the 1980s. We are able to use water much more efficiently for different applications, from cooling our machines, to aiding in the flash-pasteurization process of our product, to generating electricity. By returning the water to cooling towers and catching the evaporated water, we're able to reduce our water use by about 90%. Excess water is sent to our spray fields and evaporation ponds so water can naturally cycle back to the aquifers and ground water supply.
Microsprinkling Systems
Each grower shares the responsibility of protecting the land and developing innovative ways to reduce our impact on the environment. Our growers use microsprinkler systems that spray the citrus trees at the base, which is far more targeted and efficient.
Green Space
Everyone knows that it's good for the environment to have more trees around. Our citrus trees provide 60,000 acres of green space, which help to take in carbon dioxide and producing oxygen.
Packaging
We're always looking for ways to better our packaging techniques. Even the smallest changes in shape, size, and weight can reduce large amounts of the material it takes to make and transport each bottle.
Through our continued innovations to conserve our natural resources, we've learned that even the smallest steps can make a large impact. As much effort as we put into making premium orange juiceIs Your Juice Imported?
