A Healthy New Year
The best way to avoid getting sick is to think about staying healthy every day. Good nutrition, including vitamin C, is the first step.
The benefits of living a healthy lifestyle are more than fitting into a pair of jeans. And as the winter flu season swirls around, keeping germs away may have more to do with what you do for your body.
- Eat Well. A body that is fueled by good nutrition is better able to fight off infections. Make sure to eat foods that are dense in natural vitamins and antioxidants, such as fruits and vegetables. Florida's Natural juices are wonderful sources of Vitamin C.
- Get Some Exercise. Just 30 minutes a day can boost your body's immunity. Whether you get it all at once or in three 10-minute bursts, cardiovascular exercise can keep you healthy through the season.
- Sleep In. A well-rested body is able to fight off infection better. Most adults need between seven and eight hours of sleep. Teenagers sleep in for a reason---they can use 9 hours a night. And children need 10 to 12 hours nightly.
- Stress Less. Easier said than done, but a mind and body at ease lets your immune system do its job. Too much stress can cause you to be rundown and more susceptible to germs.
- Wash Your Hands. Like it or not, germs are everywhere. Door handles, shopping carts, bathroom sinks, kids' hands. Frequent hand washing can be the first line of defense in stopping the germs from getting to you and your family.
These are all good habits to get into no matter what the season is. But following them now could mean a healthier, happier winter for you.
