Untraditional Traditions
Discover fresh new ways to give your family something to look forward to year after year.
There's something reassuring about pulling the wishbone, trimming the tree, or polishing grandmother's menorah. In today's disposable society, family traditions are great reminders that the most important things are meant to last. Here are some new traditions that will take you from Thanksgiving to New Year's Eve.
Full of Grace
A simple white tablecloth, a set of markers, and a grateful heart are all it takes to make this tradition one your family will look forward to year after year. When dinner is served, each person writes, doodles or draws what they're thankful for, happy about, or wishing for this holiday season.
Delightful
Instead of just driving around and admiring the festive holiday lights, why not make it sweet for everyone? Load the family in the car and tour the neighborhood, voting on the home with the most magical display. When the winner is chosen, have your family knock on the door and present the unsuspecting homeowners with a prize of homemade treats.
Memory Bank
On January 1, place a large piggy bank in a location that's convenient for all family members. Throughout the year, have each member of the family write down special events, funny, sad or significant moments and deposit them into the bank. At the end of the year, on New Year's Eve, open the bank and review all the meaningful memories of the past year.
